Big Tea Second Quarter Propels Titans to Win over Pierre

The Tea Area Titans would get its first win over the Pierre Governors in basketball and improve to 5-3 on the season with a 70-52 victory over the Govs in Pierre on Tuesday.

A strong second quarter for the Titans helped get the lead to 18 at the break as the Titans went from a 16-12 advantage to 38-20. The two teams were even in scoring in each of the second half quarters as the Govs couldn’t get within single digits in the second half. Eight different players scored for Tea as they were led by Grifin Wiebenga’s game high 22 points including 13 in the second half. Marshall Smythe had 16 and Kayden Williamson had 10 off the bench for the three players in double figures for the Titans. Pierre was led in scoring by Dawson Getz who finished with 21 points including four threes, three in the third quarter alone. Luke Olson also had 17 for the 2-5 Governors.

Pierre drops its fifth straight of the season and will look to end the skid next Tuesday when they travel to Box Elder to face the Douglas Patriots.
