Pierre Man Arrested After Leading Police On Chase Through Snowy Roads

PIERRE, (KCCR) — A Pierre man was arrested Monday after leading police on a high-speed chase on icy roads. Pierre Police Captain Dusty Pelle says officers were called around seven-pm to the 500 block of South Lincoln Avenue in Pierre for a report of a disorderly subject. Officers determined through an investigation the suspect, 36 year-old Torin Dewitt was reportedly intoxicated and stabbed a female victim in the leg, then took the victim’s vehicle. About 45 minutes after the initial call, officers located Dewitt and the victim’s car near Dakota and Poplar Avenues. The officer attempted to pull Dewitt over, but when lights and siren were turned on Dewitt failed to stop. Police chased after Dewitt until he ran a stop sign turning onto Sioux Avenue. That’s when the chase was stopped due to Dewitt’s driving and slippery road conditions. Dewitt was arrested New Year’s Eve around noon. He was taken to the Hughes County Jail on charges including Aggravated Assault-Domestic Violence, Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle and Eluding.
