Sully Buttes First Doubleheader Travels to Presho to Face Lyman

For the first time this season, the Sully Buttes Chargers boys team will play as the boys and girls teams travel down to Presho to face the Lyman Raiders in the first doubleheader of the year.

The Charger girls opened the season at 1-1 with a opening night loss to Ipswich before hanging on to beat North Central on Friday. Payge Bakker has been the go to scorer so far in the two games. Lyman will play just its second game of the year after beating Potter County on Saturday. The Raiders are a young squad this season as Brooke Palmer is the lone senior and Mak Scott is the lone junior as the Raiders have three sophomores, three freshmen and three eighth graders to make up the lineup. Last season, the Raiders finished at 21-4 finishing in fourth place after going into the state tournament as the seventh seed. Lyman lost five to graduation.

The Sully Buttes Chargers return all but one to this year’s team as Logan Severson was the only Charger to graduate off last year’s squad. The Chargers finished at 9-12, a three win improvement from the previous season. Now, the Chargers will have five seniors, Trever Marshall, Teghan Westphal, Eli Mercer, Gavin Barber and Preston Kinney. They face the Raiders who beat Potter County on Saturday 68-51 to open the season. Lyman finished at just 5-16 last year and return all but one as they look to be another year better.

DT Meyer, the voice of the Sully Buttes Chargers will have the call on Country 95.3, pierrecountry.com and on YouTube at Country 95.3 Sports with coverage around 6:00 and tip off of the girls game at 6:15 and the boys game to follow.
