The Pierre Governor boys would get a 52-41 win over Rapid City Stevens at home on Friday while the girls would fall to Stevens 64-30 on the road in the first games of the 24-25 season.
The Governor girls struggled to score in the first game of the season playing a team who might return the most of any team in the state. The Raiders were able to hound the Governors throughout the entire night. Halle Peterson would lead the Raiders with 17 points including five threes. Lennix DuPris would lead the Governors with 10 points while Gracelyn Taylor knocked down two threes and finished with six. Stevens had built a 46-15 lead at the end of the first half.
The Governor boys, who trailed after the first quarter, came back strong and once the Govs took the lead in the second, Pierre never relinquished it after that. Pierre was led in scoring by Luke Olson who 14 points in the second half for the game high 18 points. Corde Austin had 12 and Dawson Getz finished with 10 points. Kaelem Brooks finished with 11 points to lead Stevens.
The Governors will play again today as the boys host the Central Cobblers with tip off at 1:00 and the girls will have tip off in Rapid City at 2:00 Central time.
