The Pierre Governor wrestling teams got the seasons underway this weekend as the Governor girls would win the Watertown Invite while the boys team would place sixth in Mandan.

The Governor girls would place four girls winning their weight classes with seven in total making the championship match. Dani Ringstmeyer in 126, Lexie Hillmer in 132, Kezrey Benning in 138 and Ireland Templeton in 145 all would win the first tournament of the year. Shaylee Speck in 100, Gemma Stangeland in 114 and Abbi Lewis in 152 all would make the championship, but fall in the final match. Pierre would beat Canton 205-190 to win the invite with third place Aberdeen Central at 129.5.

In Mandan for the boys, Alex Oedekoven in the 133 had the highest finish for Pierre as he would make the championship match finishing in second place. Both Gable Uhrig in the 107 and Elijah Boutchee in the 215 each would win their third place matches for the Governors. Sturgis would win the tournament with a 345.5 while Stevens would place third at 229 and Pierre in sixth at 195 between the South Dakota schools.
