The Sully Buttes Chargers would pick up its first state title since 1989 and doing so also get five players on the Class 9B All-State team.
Quarterback Wesley Wittler will lead the offense as he threw for 25 touchdowns and almost 2000 yards. Wittler also ran for 17 touchdowns and over 700 yards on the ground. The junior took a big step forward this year and still has another year remaining. He’s joined by receiver Gavin Colson, another junior, who had seven touchdowns on 37 catches with 588 yards. They both had the help from center Taydon LaRosh. The senior has been the most consistent lineman for the Chargers the last two years. The offense accumulated over 4000 yards with the help of LaRosh leading the line. Tom Moore, head coach of the Sully Buttes Chargers says the three were the heart and soul of the offense…
On defense, both Kaydn Westegren and Gavin Barber pick up All-State nominations. Both easily could have gotten All-State recognition on the offensive side. Barber, out of the linebacker spot had 34 tackles with a fumble recovery and an interception all while dealing with an injury throughout the year for the second straight year. Westegren, another junior, had 58 tackles was a very physical lineman and carried the physicality onto the offensive side of the ball as a running back for the Chargers. Moore says while Wittler was outstanding, Westegren might have been the MVP of the team…
Moore says he’s happy with the All-State voting and getting five kids on the list…
