The Pierre Governors have seven different players receive All-State recognition with five being on the Class 11AA All-State team and another two making honorable mention.
On the offensive side, sophomore Cooper Terwilliger and seniors George Stalley and Jacob Mikkonen all make the 2024 All-State team. Mikkonen, on the offensive line helped the Governors score 35 touchdowns in 12 games. The line, which Mikkonen helped anchor secure a total of 3,540 yards this season. Terwilliger led the team in receiving with 548 yards on 41 catches and scoring four times. Terwilliger missed around two full games with a shoulder injury. He is one of three tight end/fullback/halfbacks selected to the All-State team. Stalley also had 41 catches and had the most touchdowns on the season with seven touchdown receptions for a total of 402 yards. Defensively, seniors Elijah Boutchee and Carson Stoeser both are on the All-State team. Stoeser, out of his cornerback position, had 19 total tackles including two for loss. He also had a fumble recovery and an interception as he consistently shutdown other team’s top receivers. Boutchee led the team in total tackles with 48. He had 1.5 sacks and led the team with 14 tackles for loss. Only Boutchee and Max Hunsley had double digit tackles for loss on the season. Boutchee also had three fumble recoveries, the most on the team. Steele says Stoeser was well known as one of the best corners and defensive backs in the state for the 11AA class…
Sophomore Carter Schiefelbein and junior Carter Merrill each were placed on the All-State honorable mention. Schiefelbein had 41 receptions for 513 yards and five touchdowns for the Governors while Merrill made his mark in the second half of the year. He finished his junior campaign with 731 yards on 159 attempts scoring three times. Merrill didn’t start until the second half of the season. Steele says it’s really impressive for Merrill…
