The hockey season begins this weekend across the state and the Oahe Capitals open up the year with a weekend trip out to Yankton to face the Bucks on Saturday and Sunday.
The Capitals graduated 13 seniors from last year’s team and as well as Landon Badger stepping into the head coaching role for the varsity this season. Oahe has finished third in each of the last two state tournaments and will be looking for another deep run again this year despite the turnover. The Yankton Bucks are coming in with plenty of the core returning including its top two goal scorers. Jack Pedersen and Tucker Renken led the team in goals and points as both are back this year. Luke Moeller, the Bucks goalie also returns after having a near .900 save percentage with only two wins on the season. Yankton finished last year at 6-15-0-1 and was just four points away from making their first ever varsity state tournament. Badger says the Caps are going to have a huge test right away…

Coverage this weekend begins at 6:40 on Saturday with puck drop at 7:00 and then on Sunday with coverage at 1:55 and puck drop at 2:15. Both games will be on Capital City Rock and on YouTube at Capital City Rock Sports with Jon Winkler on the call.
