The Miller Rustlers would rally from a set deficit to beat Mt. Vernon/Plankinton in the consolation semifinal on Friday with a 21-25, 25-14, 26-24 and 25-18 win.
After having just 17 kills in the first round, the Rustlers were swinging away to a total of 50 kills Friday morning. Miller was led by Aleah Schlechter who had 14 and Kate Lichty who finished with 10. Both Paige Werdel and Kaihlyn Anderberg each had nine kills and all but two players who were on the court had at least a kill. Olivia Resel had 45 assists in the win while the team finished with 10 aces. Mt. Vernon/Plankinton was led by Reagan Rus and Madalynn Lorang who had 18 and 13 kills respectively.
Miller improves to 29-2 and can get to 30 wins with a consolation championship on Saturday. The Rustlers will play either Sioux Valley or Winner at 12:45 for the consolation title. Mt. Vernon/Plankinton will play in the 7th place game at 11:00 AM on Saturday.
