PIERRE, (KCCR) — A number of Avera facilities in central South Dakota have been recognized by the Chartis Center for Rural Health with the Performance Leadership Awards. The awards recognize the top 75-percent of rural hospitals in the three categories of quality, outcomes and/or patient perspective. Avera Hand County Memorial Hospital in Miller was recognized for Quality and Patient Perspective. Avera Missouri River Health Center in Gettysburg and Avera St. Mary’s Hospital in Pierre were awarded in the Quality category. The Performance Leadership Awards are based on the results of the Chartis Rural Hospital Performance INDEX®, a comprehensive and objective framework for assessing how rural hospitals are performing. INDEX benchmarks are relied upon by rural hospitals, health systems with rural footprints, hospital associations and state offices of rural health to measure performance across multiple areas impacting hospital operations and finance.
