Miller Volleyball Set for State Tournament as Number One Seed

The Miller Rustlers are coming into the state tournament as the number one seed in Class A as the Rustlers will be looking for its first volleyball state title.

The Rustlers have been to the championship game twice, losing to Sioux Falls Christian each time in a sweep. This year, the Rustlers are opening the state tournament against the Chargers as Sioux Falls Christian comes in as the eight seed after being ranked 12th heading into the SoDak 16. The Rustlers are 28-1 with its only loss to Class B Warner. Miller is led by Paige Werdel who has 300 kills and setter Olivia Resel who is closing in on 1000 assists this season alone. But what makes this team the most dangerous is the ability to spread out the attack with five girls having over 100 kills each. Linda Deboer, head coach of the Rustlers says they’ve had exceptional balance all year…

Defensively, the Rustlers are led by Jolie Palmer, the libero, as she will have over 500 digs on the season by the end of the weekend. They also have six girls with over 100 digs each. Deboer says as good and as balanced as they are offensively, they’re even better balanced defensively…

Deboer says this team needs to believe in themselves and each other this weekend to have a successful weekend…

The Rustlers are the first game of the state tournament taking on the Sioux Falls Christian Chargers at 11:00 AM Thursday at the Denny Sanford Premier Center in Sioux Falls.
