Last season, the Oahe Capitals boys varsity team finished in third place winning in overtime over Sioux Falls West. Now, this year’s team will have a lot of different faces along with a new head coach.
13 seniors graduated from last year’s team with just six skaters and one goalie returning with valuable ice time. Keegan Kitts, Camron Lee, Asher Vanden Bos, Ayden Behm, Dylan Dodson and Bridger Babcock all are returning after dressing for the majority of every game last season. Jaxon Jungwirth was 4-1 between the pipes in 2023-24 and becomes the number one starter to begin the season. Landon Badger steps into the head coaching position taking over for Steve Steele. However, Badger isn’t new to these guys. He’s been the JV coach for the last couple of years and the guys moving up from the JV level to varsity have been playing for Badger and the coaching staff. Badger says there will be a lot of new shoes to fill…
Badger believes the young guys can come along quickly…
Badger says they are leaning on the seniors a lot especially early on…
The Capitals begin the season on Saturday and Sunday, November 23 and 24 in Yankton. Both games will be on Capital City Rock and on YouTube at Capital City Rock Sports.
