PIERRE, (KCCR) — A Mitchell man has been sentenced to federal prison time for his role in the assault of a federal law enforcement officer on the Cheyenne River Indian Reservation. U-S Attorney Alison Ramsdell says 38 year-old Dustin Todd Long was sentenced last week to a five-year prison term to be followed by three years of supervised release. A federal grand jury indicted Long in September of last year and Long pleaded guilty in August. Ramsdell says long pointed a handgun at Cheyenne River Sioux Tribal Law Enforcement Services Officers after refusing commands from those officers in Eagle Butte in August of 2023. Long was waving a handgun around while walking on Main Street in Eagle Butte. Once Long was in custody, officers determined that the handgun was not loaded with ammunition. Long was immediately taken into custody by the U-S Marshals Service to begin serving his sentence.
