Governors Season Ends with Sweep from Jefferson

The Pierre Governor volleyball team couldn’t quite get ahead of the Jefferson Cavaliers on Thursday night dropping the SoDak 16 contest in a three sets, 25-18, 25-15 and 25-16.

Pierre finishes the season at 6-15 while Jefferson advances to the state tournament as the number two seed at now 20-4. Emory Brosnahan once again led the Cavaliers as she finished with 10 kills while Campbell Cronin tied her in the match high as the Governors kept it close in the hitting category with Jefferson outhitting the Govs only 29-23. Isabel Simmons had five third set kills and nine overall as Jefferson would use long rallies to create distance from the Governors in each of the three sets. Jaycee Bauer had seven kills for Pierre.

For seniors, Kiera Gossman, Ava Swenson, Ely Broers, Savannah Fullerton, Grace Hanton, Bauer, Cronin and Addison Soma, their volleyball careers with Pierre would come to an end.

Jefferson will face seventh seeded Brandon Valley in the first round of the state tournament on Thursday in Sioux Falls.
