PIERRE, (KCCR) — The latest batch of South Dakota’s newest law enforcement officers are graduating Friday from the 193rd Basic Law Enforcement Certification Course in Pierre. A total of 48 recruits who represent 34 different agencies are wrapping up 13 week and 520 hours of training to become fully certified South Dakota law enforcement officers. The recruits are trained in areas such as instruction on the law, arrest control tactics, firearms, vehicle handling and criminal investigations. New officers coming to central South Dakota come from the Pierre Police Department, Winner Police Department, Dewey County Sheriff, Mellette County Sheriff, Lyman County Sheriff. Other offices are from Box Elder, Rapid City, Wagner, Tea, Summerset, Huron, Spearfish, Sisseton, Sioux Falls, Deadwood, Aberdeen, Yankton, Mobridge, Brookings and Belle Fourche; Sheriff’s Offices in Beadle, Bennett, Pennington, Meade, Aurora, Douglas, Perkins and Custer Counties and the Black Hills State and the University of South Dakota Police Departments. The ceremony is Friday at 10 am.
