Some Access To West Shore Mountain Bike Trails To Close For Work Near Emergency Spillway

PIERRE, (KCCR) — Work on the banks of the Oahe Dam emergency spillway will force the closure of sections of the West Shore Mountain Bike Trail for the better part of the next year. The U-S Army Corps of Engineers will start a maintenance project to stabilize the banks of the spillway starting November 10th. A gravel road that leads to the primary mountain biking trailhead and a section of single track trails will be closed just east of the emergency spillway. The remainder of the mountain bike trail to the east of the spillway will remain open. Those areas can be accessed from a gravel road to the east or from an overlook gravel road on the east side of the trail system. Construction barricades will denote closed trail areas. A small area west of the emergency spillway will also be closed to the public. Corps officials expect the project to last up to a year and should be finished by November of 2025.
