PIERRE, (KCCR) — A mother and son from Bridger have been sentenced to significant federal prison time for their roles in the death of a man on the Cheyenne River Indian Reservation. U-S Attorney Alison Ramsdell says 48 year-old Theodora Belt and 23 year-old Bailey Belt were sentenced by Chief Judge Roberto Lange on charges of Second Degree Murder, Assault with a Dangerous Weapon and Assault Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury. Theodora was sentenced to 22 years on the murder charge while Bailey was given a 27 year term on the murder charge and 10 years for assaulting two victims with the sentences to run at the same time. Ramsdell says on May 27th of 2023 in Bridger, the Belts were at the victims home socializing. An argument began resulting in one victim being punched, kicked and beaten with a shovel. The first victim was also run over by a car driven by Theodora Belt which killed the victim. Bailey Belt struck the second victim with a shovel. That victim was transported to Rapid City by air transport. He survived his injuries.
