Governors Force Five Turnovers, Beat Spearfish again in 11AA Quarterfinals

Carson Stoeser and Sutton Sonnenschein each had two turnovers with Elijah Boutchee scoring three times and Carter Merrill twice as the Pierre Governors beat Spearfish at home 40-20 to advance in the 11AA playoffs.

After a missed field goal and punt on the Governors first two drives, both Merrill and Boutchee would reach the end zone on the next five full possessions for the Governors to carry a 14-12 lead into a 30-12 advantage salting away the game. Stoeser had an interception and a fumble recovery, Sonnenschein with two interceptions and Porter Hunsley also had an interceptions as the Governors win the turnover battle 5-0. Merrill finished with over 200 yards on the ground on 32 carries. Kaleb Lounsbury would finish with 132 yards through the air on 11-17 passing. Pierre outgained Spearfish 425-321.

Pierre wins its fourth straight at now 6-4 on the season and advance to face the Yankton Bucks in the 11AA semifinal next Friday. Kickoff time is still to be determined, but coverage will be on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports.
