PIERRE, (KCCR) — Names have been released in a fatal three vehicle crash in McCook County last week that involved a Haakon County truck driver. The crash happened Sunday, October 28th around 7:15 am two miles southeast of Salem on Interstate 90 near Salem. A 2002 Mazda driven by 26 year-old Destiny Fine of Canistota was travel west on the interstate when it left the surface and struck the beginning of a guardrail. The Mazda came back into the travel lanes where it was struck by 2005 Dodge Ram driven by 56 year-old Faron Scarberry of Alexandria. Scarberry hit the rear of the Mazda which spun it into the path of a 1995 Peterbilt with livestock trailer driven by 44 year-old Keith Smith of Milesville. Fine was airlifted to a Sioux Falls hospital were she was pronounced dead. Scarberry suffered minor injuries while Smith was uninjured. The South Dakota Highway Patrol believes alcohol was a factor in the original crash of the Mazda into the guardrail.
