Chargers Roll Sunshine Bible Academy, Gear up for Post Season

The Sully Buttes Charger football team stuck to the basics on offense and defense, rushing the ball effectively and stopping the run effectively, to pick up a 60-6 victory Friday afternoon at Sunshine Bible Academy school.

The Chargers were led by junior running back Kadyn Westergren, who racked up 267 yards rushing on 12 attempts, and the Chargers totaled 364 total offensive yards on the afternoon. Quarterbacks Wesley Wittler and Easton Moore were efficient enough through the air, with a total of 72 yards passing, but it was the ground game that controlled the play.

Defensively, Sully Buttes shut down the Crusaders rushing attack, holding it to 43 total yards on the ground, and 51 combined yards for the game. The only score came on a Charger fumble at their 33 yard line, and returned by senior defensive end Ross Vander Vorst for the only points Sully Buttes allowed.  Sully Buttes also intercepted the ball five times, with three returned for touchdowns. The continuous clock was enacted in the second half, and the game was called by the mercy rule.

The 7-1 Chargers now await results from Friday evening to determine who they will host on Thursday, while the 2-5 Crusaders could make the playoff field and if they do will be traveling.
