Governors Sixth Heading to Day Two with Two in Semifinals

The Pierre Governor tennis team has a chance for every flight to finish at fifth place or higher heading into the second day in sixth place at the 2024 tennis state tournament.

Eliza Mayer in flight five and Adrian Hand in flight six both would win their quarterfinal matches to reach the semifinals on Tuesday. But every flight would make the quarterfinals and on the winner’s side of the bracket. In doubles flight one, Bailey Jessen and Ella Fisk would upset the six seed Lennox team to reach the fifth place finals. Brianna Tedrow and Amara Dell would also reach the fifth place finals escaping the fifth place semifinal match winning 10-9. Elise Bowers and Mayer in flight three would go 2-1 to reach the fifth place finals.

On the singles side, Jessen in flight one, Tedrow in flight two, Bowers in flight three and Dell in flight four all will start the day at the fifth place semifinals needing to win to play for fifth place. All four flights went 1-1.

The Governors scored 191 points in day one which is good for sixth place. However, third place is well within reach at just 47 points back and all nine flights still possibly gaining points on Tuesday.
