The Pierre Governor soccer teams will both be at home today as the two teams are inside the top eight to host the first round of the playoffs. The Governor girls host Aberdeen Central and the boys host Spearfish.
The Governor girls finished the regular season at 10-3-1 and play the team in which they started the year. Pierre beat Aberdeen Central 3-1 on the first Friday of the season and now look to also end the Golden Eagles season. It’s the 3-14 matchup so a win keeps the Govs at home on Saturday regardless of the outcome. Aberdeen finished the season at 4-7-3 but were just 1-5-3 to close the year after starting the season at 3-2.
The Governor boys will be hosting Spearfish in the 7-10 matchup after beating them at home 2-1 back on September 7. The Governors finished with the most wins in program history since the sport has been sanctioned. Spearfish finished at 5-7-1, but after the loss to Pierre went 4-2 in the final half of the season. Pierre is heading into the playoffs at 5-1-1.
