The Pierre Governor girls were stunned 1-0 with a late goal against the Aberdeen Central Golden Eagles, but the Pierre boys would roll to a 7-1 route of the Spearfish Spartans in the first round of the playoffs.
The Governor girls would outshoot the Golden Eagles 13-10 but the Governors couldn’t crack through the tough Golden Eagle defense as goalkeeper Ava Beck would make seven saves in net. Keyanna Stillman would get the lone goal of the game with just two and half minutes to go to upset Pierre as the Governors finish with a record of 10-4-1. Aberdeen advances to travel to Roosevelt on Saturday for the quarterfinals in the 6-14 game.
The Governor boys would take until the midway point of the first half before Alex Oedekoven would flip a shot over the goalkeeper’s head to give Pierre a 1-0. Oedekoven would finish a hat trick in the first half as Pierre led 4-0 before starting the second half with his fourth goal of the game as Pierre built a 7-0 lead before the Spartans would score its only goal of the game. Lucas Hight, Jacoby LaRoche and Weston Northrup would each score in the blowout win as the Governors pick up a playoff victory in their first ever playoff home game under SDHSAA.
The Governors advance to face the two seed Lincoln on Saturday in Sioux Falls.
