Governors Begin Quest for Golf State Title

The Pierre Governor golf team is in Watertown starting today and running through Tuesday at the Cattail Golf Course for the AA state championship, looking for a state title.

The Governors picked up an ESD title last week Monday in Aberdeen with Sawyer Sonnenschein winning the individual ESD championship. All four of the scoring Governors placed in the top ten at the ESD. Pierre wants to replicate the results over the next two days. Pierre played at the Cattail Golf Course back on September 24 placing third as a team just four shots behind Mitchell and the host Watertown. Nick Bothun had the best finish in Watertown at one under par, 71 tying for fourth place. Tiffany Benham, head coach of the Pierre Governors says the win at the ESD really propels the Governors into the state tournament…

The Watertown Arrows have been one of the toughest teams and competition for Pierre all season and Benham says playing on their home course adds an extra challenge…

Benham says they want to use what they learned last year at the state tournament and from this year’s event at Watertown…

Tee time is scheduled for 9:00 as all six golfers will start at hole one beginning with Sawyer Sonnenschein at 9:20, Bothun at 9:30, Luke Olson at 9:40, Lincoln Houska at 9:50, Jack Bartlett at 10:00 and Tate Stoeser at 10:10 in Watertown.
