The Pierre Governor soccer teams would end the regular season with two wins on Thursday and two wins each in the week as the Govs would sweep Brookings with the girls winning 4-0 and the boys 4-1.
The Governor girls would pick up its tenth win of the season behind Emlyn Swanson’s sixth shutout and fourth straight to end the regular season. Ireland Templeton would score first. Jasmine Jost and Zoey Bauer would score minutes apart to give the Govs a 3-0 lead at the break. Gracelyn Taylor would finish off the game scoring in the second half as Pierre finishes the season at 10-3-1.
The Governor boys would get another four goals on the game as they pick up the ninth win of the season and finish with the most wins in the regular season in program history since the sport has become sanctioned by the High School Activities Association. Alex Oedekoven, Javier Pretell-Alegre and Owen Sivage would all get goals as Caiden Ahartz would score on a penalty kick as well as the Governor offense will finish the regular season averaging two goals per game. Pierre finishes at 9-3-2.
Both teams earn a home game in the first round of the playoffs, but the boys brackets won’t be completed until the final game of the regular season is played on Saturday. However, the Governor teams will both be home on Tuesday for the first round of the playoffs with the Governor girls the three seed, facing the 14 seed Aberdeen Central Golden Eagles.
