Faulkton Area’s Size, Ground Game Combines to Knock off Sully Buttes

The Faulkton Area Trojans, runners up in state Class 9B last season, used a consistent ground game and veteran defense to stymie Sully Buttes and knock off the Chargers 28-8 Friday night in Onida.

A combined 241 rushing yards with 53 passing for Faulkton Area helped them control the line of scrimmage as Sully Buttes couldn’t contain the one-two punch of Landon Coyle’s 80 yards and Tristan Baloun’s 141 total on the Trojan offensive ground attack.

The Faulkton Area defense was more than up to the task, keeping the Chargers in check for most of the entire first half. Sully Buttes only had success when they came out with quick sideline and slant passes to loosen up a smothering defense.

Faulkton Area finished the night with 294 yards to Sully Buttes 232.

The 3-2 Trojans now host the 1-4 North Central Titans Friday night, while the 4-1 Chargers travel to Faith, to take on the 0-5 Longhorns, with a 7PM Central time kickoff. Catch the action on Country 95.3FM with DT Meyer.
