Yankton Spoils Pierre’s Homecoming with Running Clock Win

The Yankton Bucks would put a sour end to homecoming week, rolling past the Governors in a 35-7 game Friday night at Hollister Field in Pierre.

Yankton scored in each of its two possessions and led 21-0 at the half thanks to a Cohen Zahrbock 17 yard catch, a one yard touchdown run by Matthew Sheldon and a 18 yard catch from Carson Ness. Yankton opened up the second half with a near loss play that turned into a 53 yard touchdown run from Evan Serck after quarterback Easton Nelson was about to be wrapped up in the backfield. The running clock would be enacted at the end of the third quarter with a 10 yard touchdown grab by Ness as Nelson finished with 151 yards on 15-19 throwing and three touchdowns. George Stalley would get the only touchdown of the game for the Governors on a 38 yard pass from Kaleb Lounsbury as the Governors used three different quarterbacks in the game, but Lounsbury ended up throwing for 100 yards going 6-23.

Pierre drops to 2-3 and a three game losing streak for the first time since 2014 while Yankton improves to 3-2. The Governors will get its 11AAA game next Friday against the O’Gorman Knights. Coverage will start at 6:30 with kickoff at 7:00 on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports.
