The Pierre Governor soccer teams would get the best of the Mitchell Kernels with both the boys and girls pitching shutouts as the girls would win 3-0 and the boys 4-0.
In the girls contest, Lexie Hillmer would get the first goal of the game, from a long distance, about 30 yards out late in the first half as the Govs led just 1-0 after the first 40 minutes. After the heat timeout in the second half, Pierre would strike for two quick goals as Gracelyn Taylor would score from the top of the box with the left foot, then Ireland Templeton would get free off a throw in and be able to tap it past the keeper to extend the Govs lead to 3-0 which stood as the final score to improve the Governors to 8-3-1.
In the boys game, Lucas Hight would score twice as the offense continues to fire for the Govs. Alex Oedekoven would also find the back of the net again for Pierre and Weston Northrup would score on a penalty kick to give the Govs a 4-0 win and also improve the record to 8-3-1 as they have now won five of six heading into the final week of the regular season.
Pierre will travel to Huron on Tuesday to face the Tigers in a boys and girls doubleheader before returning home for a make up date with Brookings on Thursday next week to close out the regular season. Kickoff on Tuesday is at 4:00 for the girls and 6:00 for the boys.
