Governor Soccer with Longest Road Trip to Yankton

The Pierre Governor soccer teams will be on the road to Yankton today for the farthest trip of the year with just two weeks remaining in the regular season.

The Governors have four games remaining with two this week and another two next week. Pierre will host Mitchell in the afternoon on Thursday for its homecoming game. The Governor girls are coming in still in third place in the AA standings at 7-3 but will face a much improved Yankton Gazelles squad at 7-4-1 and in eighth place in the standings. The Gazelles have won its last three contests including a 2-0 win over Mitchell the last time out. Pierre is looking to bounce back after its 2-0 loss to Tea Area on Saturday.

The Governor boys are also looking for a bounce back win. Pierre dropped a 3-2 decision to Tea, but while the girls team is improved, the Yankton Bucks have struggled to get wins. The Bucks did defeat Mitchell 5-3 last Thursday, but are still 2-9-1 and are on the outside of the playoffs. With both opponents this week sitting near the bottom of the standings, the 6-3-1 Govs want to play well and gather two wins before the final week of the season.

Kickoff of the girls game is at 4:00 with the boys game to follow at 6:00 at Crane Youngworth Field in Yankton.
