Sonnenschein Wins Fourth Event, Governors Second in Brookings

The Pierre Governor golf team would travel to the Brookings Country Club on Monday with Sawyer Sonnenschein winning his fourth event in five tries as the Governors finished second as a team.

Sonnenschein would tie Harrisburg’s Gavin Weir for first place as both were four under par 68, finishing a shot better than Watertown’s Ty Lenards. Sonnenschein would birdie the first playoff hole to beat Weir for the individual win. Lincoln Houska would also finish in the top ten for Pierre at an even par, 72 tying for sixth place. Nick Bothun would tie for 14th at three over par, 75 and Luke Olson would round out the top four with a five over par, 77 tying for 15th. Jack Bartlett would be at a 79 on the day while Tate Stoeser would finish at 86.

The Governors placed second, shooting well at four over par, one shot better than Watertown. However, Harrisburg would finish at six under par as a team to claim the team title in Brookings, 10 shots ahead of the Governors. The top four all were under par or even on the day.

The Governors will travel to Mitchell on Friday for its next invite. Tee time is at 10:30 at Lake View Golf Course.
