Governors Burst Out in Second Half to Beat Huron

The Pierre Governors outscored the Huron Tigers 35-0 in the second half to win 48-6 in the home opener on Friday night and improve to 2-0 on the season.

The Governors didn’t score until the first play of the second quarter as Kaleb Lounsbury would hit George Stalley for a 28 yard touchdown throw and catch to put Pierre up 6-0. Carter Schiefelbein would make his first catch and score on a 35 yard pass as he finished the night with three catches for over 100 yards and two touchdowns. Huron answered the Govs second score to head to halftime at 13-6. But Cooper Terwilliger would have a pick six while Kellan Hanson and Colter Babcock would also intercept Colten McNeil as the Governor defense have allowed just 20 points in two games.

Lounsbury would finish 14-28 for 233 yards and five touchdowns as Stalley also had two touchdown grabs and Ayden Behm would have a 30 yard touchdown reception.

Pierre is now 2-0 and Huron falls to 0-2. The Governors will host the Watertown Arrows on Friday after the Arrows beat the Yankton Bucks 27-13. Coverage will start at 6:30 with kickoff at 7:00 on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler and Blake Dean on the call.
