Soccer Hosts Sturgis at Hollister Field for First Time

The Pierre Governor soccer team returns after nine days between games as the Governors host the Sturgis Scoopers tonight, but playing on the football field at Hollister Field.

It’s the first time since soccer has been a sanctioned sport the Governors will get to play on the football field at Phil Trautner stadium. Pierre will have a chance to have the lights on and play a late evening game at home.

The Governor girls are coming in at 2-0 after wins over both Aberdeen Central and Roosevelt. Pierre has outscored the two teams 5-2 in the two wins, but will face a team who has scored four goals, yet still 0-3 on the season against AA teams. Sturgis lost 4-1 to Watertown, shutout by Lincoln and dropped a 4-3 decision to Washington. Sturgis beat A opponent Belle Fourche in its only road game of the season prior to tonight.

The Governor boys are at 1-1 on the season, narrowly dropping a 2-1 decision to Aberdeen Central, but shutting out Roosevelt and dominating the Roughriders last week Tuesday 4-0. In three games against AA teams, Sturgis is 0-3 giving up nine goals including a 5-2 loss to Washington. The Scoopers also beat Belle Fourche, class A opponent on Tuesday for its first win of the season.

The Governor boys will play first at 5:00 with the girls game to follow at 7:00 at Hollister Field in Pierre.
