Governors Set New School Record as Team, Sonnenschein Win Invite

The Pierre Governor golf team has a goal to leave a mark in history after this season and they would take a step on Tuesday setting a new school record at Hillsview Golf Course in Pierre, winning the event.

Sawyer Sonnenschein also had tied the school record as he would win the individual day shooting a remarkable eight under par, 64. Teammates Luke Olson and Nick Bothun each would shoot four under par, 68 tying for third place as Sonnenschein would win the event by a stroke over Watertown’s Kaden Rylance. Lincoln Houska would be a shot over par, 73 finishing tied for 13th while Jack Bartlett would be in 16th at two over par, 74. Tate Stoeser would round out the varsity team with an 83. Pierre had its JV team play in the invite as Kelan Harris would lead the team with a 91 for the day. The JV team would finish with a 371.

Pierre, as a team, was 15 under par overall shooting a 273 setting the school record. Watertown would place second, three shots back at 276. Pierre had a total of 21 birdies between the four scoring individuals and the six in total combined for 24 birdies.
