The Pierre Governor boys and girls soccer teams would each get a win over the Roosevelt Roughriders on Tuesday as the girls would nab a 2-1 victory while the boys would pick up a 4-0 win.
Gracelyn Taylor would strike first for the Govs in the girls win on Tuesday. She would be fed a through ball from Lexie Hillmer and had to make one move around the goalkeeper to find the wide open net. In the second half, Natalie Flottmeyer would return the favor as she would spring Hillmer free up the middle on another through ball and Hillmer would beat the keeper to make it a 2-0 advantage. Roosevelt would score late in the game, but the Governors were able to hold on to go 2-0 to start the season.
In the boys contest, the Governors showed their offensive power as Caiden Ahartz would get the scoring started early on with a cross from Alex Oedekoven to deflect it in, giving the Govs the start they wanted. Ahartz would add an assist later on in the contest while Oedekoven would score twice on top of his assist and Jacoby LaRoche would add a goal as well to power the Govs to a dominating 4-0 win and evening the record at 1-1.
Pierre will be off until next week Thursday when they host the Sturgis Scoopers. Both varsity games will be played at the football field, Hollister Field with the boys starting at 5:00 and the girls at 7:00.
