Pierre Post 8 14U just missed qualifying for Sunday in Watertown at the 14U state tournament finishing at 1-2 after picking up a win in the first game of the tournament.
After trailing 5-0 through two innings on Thursday against the Rapid City Post 320 Comets, Post 8 scored the next 11 runs including three in the third and five in the fourth to take the lead for good in the first game win. Will Eilers had three hits including a triple and three RBIs to lead the Eights while Bryson Wallman had another three hits and two RBIs as the Eights took advantage of 11 walks and six errors from the Comets. Maddux Dokken went grabbed the win in the first game of the tournament going five innings allowing two earned runs, five runs overall on six hits, three walks and three strikeouts. However, the Eights ran into a buzzsaw of Renner who beat Pierre 12-2 on Friday. The Eights had to beat Sioux Falls Post 15 to have a shot at playing Sunday, but found themselves down 9-2 heading into the bottom of the seventh. Pierre rallied for five runs, all with two outs in the inning, but came up just short in a 9-7 loss.
Post 8 14U finishes the season at 14-18. Brookings, who went 1-2 in pool play, went in as the six seed and upset the three, two and one seeds finish with Renner winning 12-3 to claim the 14U state title.
