The Pierre Post 8 13U team would go 5-0 from Thursday to Sunday capping off a remarkable season by beating Aberdeen 11-4 to the win the 2024 state championship.
The 13U team finished the weekend outscoring its opponents 58-7 including two 10-0 shutouts over Watertown and Brookings. Pierre started the state tournament beating Yankton 19-2 before the 10-0 shutout wins and controlling the number one seed heading into bracket play. The top seeds would receive the bye and Pierre used it to their advantage beating Harrisburg MAG 8-1 to advance to the state title contest against the six seed Aberdeen. In the state championship, Tace Palacek would double and drive in three runs to lead the Eights to the win. Pierre scored in all but the bottom of the second and even trailed 3-1 going into the bottom of the third before scoring four runs in the inning which was the bases clearing double by Palacek. Brecken Fuhrman had two RBIs while Tucker Swenson would triple and have an RBI along with Matt Mostellar and Jett Kirchenmann. Hayden Northrup would get the win on the mound in the state championship as he, Jace Hand, Kaden Goodlander and Fuhrman all threw to hoist the trophy in coach Jonny Lyons’ first year as head coach.
Pierre finishes the season at 34-7-1 ending on a 10 game winning streak and a state championship.
