In the confides of historic Hyde Stadium, the Pierre Post 8 Jr. Legion would go 1-2 in the state tournament, just shy of making the Sunday semifinals.
Pierre would beat Rapid City Post 320 Shooters 5-1 on Thursday starting the tournament in a solid spot. Will Danburg threw a complete game on 105 pitches allowing just one run on six hits with two walks and six strikeouts. Danburg had two RBIs while Sutton Sonnenschein, Porter Hunsley and Bridger Babcock each had an RBI in the win. Pierre scored four runs in the first and led 5-0 after two innings which was all Danburg needed. In the second game of the weekend, Pierre would fall 11-3 to Brandon Valley as Post 131 would score seven runs in the first three innings to pace themselves to the win. Still with a shot to get into the semifinals, Brookings would end the Eights season with a 14-7 win Saturday night. Pierre did make a six run comeback as they scored six times in the top of the fourth to overcome a 6-0 deficit, but Brookings immediately responded with four runs in the bottom half of the inning. Carter Schiefelbein had three extra base hits driving in three runs for the Eights as Jackson Goodman and Sonnenschein each had a double.
The young Jr. Legion squad would finish with a 10-23 record on the season as the Rapid City Post 22 Expos would get the state championship beating Brandon Valley on Sunday with a 6-5 win.
