Traffic To Begin Limited Use Of New John Waldron Bridge Starting Thursday

PIERRE, (KCCR) — Vehicles moving between Pierre and Fort Pierre will get to use the new John Waldron Memorial Bridge starting Thursday. The South Dakota Department of Transportation is moving the flow of vehicles over the old bridge to the new bridge so that work on the eastbound lanes of the new bridge can finish. Traffic will still be head-to-head, but go from the eastbound lanes on the old bridge to the westbound lanes of the new bridge. The crossover will be maintained from James Street on the Pierre side to the Yellowstone/Highway 83 junction in Fort Pierre. The two-way traffic will continue through the summer as grading and paving work is finished on both sides of the bridge. The 10-foot width restriction will stay unchanged with the move of traffic over the bridge itself Over width traffic will continue to use a detour over the Oahe Dam. Motorists are asked to continue to be alert through the work zone and watch for worker and construction traffic.
