Post 8 13U State Begins State Tournament with High Hopes

One of the top teams in the state will begin the state tournament on Thursday as Pierre Post 8 13U will be in Sioux Falls playing Thursday through Saturday with Sunday being championship day.

The Eights 13U team is 29-7-1 on the season and have won five in a row and 12 of 14 heading into the state tournament. At one point in the season had won 11 games in a row and of the seven losses, just a few were against in state opponents. However, one of those losses is against Friday’s opponent in Watertown. Pierre will be playing Yankton, Watertown and then Brookings in their pool looking to advance, however they have beaten all three teams in the regular season. Jonny Lyons, head coach of the 13U team says this team is ready to compete for a state championship…

Lyons says the chemistry is a big reason why this Post 8 team has had a lot of success this summer…

There are three pools with the winners advancing along with three wildcard teams. The top two teams receive a bye and seeds three through six will have to win three games on Sunday to win the championship. Lyons says winning the pool and be a top two seed is huge…

Lyons says pitching, defense and good at bats are all huge this weekend…

The 13U Eights will play at 2:30 on Thursday against Yankton, 5:00 on Friday against Watertown and Saturday at 3:30 against Brookings. You can see a tournament schedule below.
