PIERRE, (KCCR) — The South Dakota Department of Transportation will be holding two public meetings next week to gather public input for the U-S Highway 212/Forest City Bridge Corridor and Environmental Study. The hearings are being done in conjunction with the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe and Federal Highway Administration. The public meeting open house events in Eagle Butte and Gettysburg are being held to update residents about the study. The area being looked at in the study is Highway 212 between South Dakota Highway 1804 and Bureau of Indian Affairs Route Eight. The study will identify and evaluate feasible alignments for Highway 212 to include eventual replacement of the Highway 212 bridge over the Missouri River between Dewey and Potter Counties. The Eagle Butte meeting is August 5th from 5:30 to 7:30 pm Mountain Time at the Cheyenne-Eagle Butte Elementary School. The Gettysburg meeting is August 6th from 5:30 to 7:30 pm at the Gettysburg High School. The Forest City bridge is the only Missouri River crossing between Pierre and Mobridge.
