Pierre Post 8 may just be getting hot at the right time. The regular season has concluded and Pierre will be on the road to Watertown for the best-of-three series beginning Thursday for a spot in the state tournament next week.
This is the 5-11 matchup as Watertown finished at 24-9 in South Dakota games finishing the regular season at 42-23. Watertown went 4-5 in its last five games with losses to Brookings and Spearfish against Class A opponents. Pierre, though, finished the year winning three of four in the final two doubleheaders and went 3-3 in the final week, all six games in the Sioux Falls area. Pierre went 9-16 in South Dakota games and 10-28 overall. Pierre lost five South Dakota games by one run.
The two teams met back on Tuesday, June 25 after having the original game to open up the season for Pierre postponed. Pierre played Post 17 close in both games. The Eights dropped a 5-4 decision in nine innings in game one of the doubleheader before losing 13-7 in game two, having just one bad inning denying them a split and even potentially a sweep of Watertown.
