Olson, Pugh Finishes Top Ten at Sanford Series Championship

Pierre Governor Luke Olson would finish ninth in the boys Sanford Series Championship event on Monday at the Minnehaha Country Club while Miller’s Jayce Pugh would be third in the girls event.

Jake Olson of Watertown would win the championship shooting a three under par, a shot better than Riley Christiansen of Sioux Falls. It would be six shots better than Olson who finished three over par, 74 tying with four other golfers to be inside the top 20. Pierre had two more members inside the top ten as Nick Bothun would tie for 14th shooting four over par, 75 and Lincoln Houska at five over par, 76 tying for 16th. Sawyer Sonnenschein would be tied for 21st at 79 in total and Jack Bartlett would be in 24th at 81.

Miller’s Pugh would be fighting for the lead throughout the event on Monday, but ultimately was two shots back of Allison Meyerink of Mitchell for the Series Championship. Meyerink was one over par 74 while Pugh finished three over par, 76 in third place. Only Aberdeen’s Olivia Braun and Mitchell’s Maddie Childs had more birdies than Pugh. Each had three while Pugh finished with two.
