Rapids Soccer Falls in PKs in National Championship

The Black Hills Rapids Soccer Club U19 girls would fall in the National Championship game of the US Club Soccer NPL Finals on Monday with a 2-2 score and 4-3 in penalty kicks.

Two Pierre Governors represent the the Black Hills team as Ireland Templeton and Brianna Sargent would play on the national runner team. Templeton will head into her senior year for the Governors while Sargent will be at Black Hills State to play for the Yellowjackets in the fall.

The Black Hills Rapids went 2-0-1 in pool play over the weekend as they would tie Colorado Evolution 0-0 before winning 4-2 over a team from Los Angeles and a 6-0 win over Gainesville, Florida club. Being in the top two of the group, the Black Hills Rapids would advance to the semifinals on Sunday and would win 5-1 over Union Kansas City Soccer Club to advance to Monday’s championship facing the 3-0-1 Americas Football Club. The two teams played to a 2-2 draw through regulation and through the two overtime periods to then have the game go to penalty kicks. Americas would score on four shots and Black Hills would get stopped on two of the five as the Americas would win the championship game and title.

Templeton and Sargent had both played on the winning South Dakota United team in 2021 who had won the National Championship.
