The Sioux Falls Canaries couldn’t get the sweep of the Sioux City Explorers on Sunday as Sioux City would hold on for a 7-6 win.
A total of six home runs were hit in the game combined as Sioux Falls would hit four of the park and Sioux City with another two. Sioux City had a 3-0 lead at the end of the first, but Sioux Falls would take a 5-4 lead in the fifth as Trevor Achenbach would hit one of his two homers to lead off the inning and Scott Combs would hit a two run homer to give the Canaries a slim lead for a short time. Scott Ota would homer to lead off the bottom half of the inning to tie the game and the Explorers would take the lead for good later in the inning. Josh Rehwaldt had the other homer for the Canaries and Pierre’s Spencer Sarringar would go 1-4 with a walk in the loss.
Sioux Falls would win two of three in the series and are 22-15 on the season, just a game back of Fargo-Moorhead. The Canaries return home on Tuesday to start a series with the Lincoln Saltdogs.
