Saturday, Pierre Post 8 would find themselves down 12-3 to Glendive before scoring 10 straight to win 13-12, but falling 11-2 to Minot to close the tournament at 1-3.
Pierre would lead 1-0 in the top of the first on a Charlie Simpson sacrifice fly RBI, but Glendive would get five runs in the bottom half of the first and another seven runs in the third to lead 12-3 and seven of the 12 runs were unearned against Colter Babcock. However, Simpson would allow just one hit, with three strikeouts in five and 1/3 innings in relief and the Eights began its comeback. Pierre scored four runs in the fourth with RBIs from Grayson Hunsley and Bridger Babcock and then another four runs to tie the game in the seventh with RBIs from Colter Babcock, Simpson and a two RBI single from Hunsley. Sutton Sonnenschein would be walked with the bases loaded in the top of the eighth to give Pierre the 13-12 lead as the Glendive pitching staff allowed 16 walks in eight innings. Brayden Houlette and Nolan Petersen also had an RBI in the win.
In game two, and the final game of the tournament for Pierre, the Eights would get an RBI single from Sonnenschein and sac fly RBI from Hunsley to lead 2-0 through three innings. However, a six run inning which was capped by a three run triple from Kellan Burke gave Minot a 6-2 advantage and another five runs in the fifth as Trey Stewart drove in two, this time gave the Eights too much to come back.
The Eights are now 2-16 on the season and will travel to Watertown on Tuesday for a doubleheader before hosting Spearfish at home on Wednesday. Coverage will begin at 4:45 on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports.
