Later this week, Pierre Post 8 will begin its season traveling to Watertown and Brookings and for the senior legion team, will have a new manager at helm, but still a familiar face.
River Iverson was hired this past winter as the next head coach of the Eights senior legion team taking over for Brian White, who stepped away at the end of last summer. Iverson though, is not unfamiliar with this team. Including being the assistant coach last summer, Iverson has been coaching most of these athletes since graduating in 2020 playing his final summer for Pierre. This year’s team will be a younger squad again. Miles Doyle is the only member in his last official year with Post 8. Nolan Petersen, Grayson Hunsley and Brayden Houlette, the other three seniors will have the option to play again as super seniors in 2025. For everyone else, all are juniors, sophomores and freshmen on this year’s team. Iverson says there’s a lot of excitement heading into the season for these young guys…
Injuries are a part of the game, but unfortunately for Post 8, the team is already dealing with some season ending injuries including returning Ridge Leimbach who had sub one ERA and WHIP during the high school season…
There will be a few guys on the roster getting their first varsity playing time this summer between high school ball and legion and Iverson says he wants to see all of them have a lot of confidence heading into the first games of the season…
Pierre opens the season at Watertown on Thursday and then will take on Brookings on Friday, both on the road. Both days of games will be on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler on the call.
