The Pierre Governor baseball team would get the offense going with 25 hits and 15 runs in a sweep of the Yankton Bucks on Sunday to close the season winning 11-9 and 4-2.
The Governors would lead 2-0 and 4-2 through the second and third innings but then trailed 6-4 and 8-6 as both teams had four innings of at least two runs scoring. Pierre would get a five run sixth as Spencer Easland would tie the game at 8-8 going 4-4 in game one with two RBIs and Matthew Brewer would get the go-ahead RBI to lead 9-8. Cade Kaiser would get another RBI with a bases loaded hit by pitch to make it 10-8 and Jett Zabel had an RBI bases loaded walk to extend the lead. George Stalley would get the win on the mound going the final two and 2/3 innings while Kaiser and Brewer each had three RBIs in the win.
In game two, Pierre would get on the board first with an RBI ground out from Stalley as he finished with two RBIs in the game. Stalley tripled home the run in the third before Charlie Simpson added in another run to make it 3-0. Nolan Petersen would get the final RBI to make it 4-0 in the bottom of the sixth before Yankton would get two runs in the seventh. Cooper Terwilliger would get six shutout innings allowing just two hits, seven walks and four strikeouts including getting out of a bases loaded jam in the sixth with nobody out. Easland finished the day with six hits.
Pierre finishes the regular season at 12-9 and in sixth place in the standings. The Govs will host Yankton again in the 6-11 matchup this coming weekend in the best two-of-three series. Game times are still to be determined.
