The Pierre Governors softball team will play for the first time this week as they host the Jefferson Cavaliers today and the Lincoln Patriots on Saturday.
The Governors are sitting at 2-12 on the season and are looking to get back on the winning track but will face two teams in the top five of the standings this weekend. Jefferson is at 10-5 heading into the game tonight in fourth place in the AA standings. The Cavs beat the Governors 18-1 last weekend in Sioux Falls.
The Lincoln Patriots are the last undefeated team remaining in AA and only Lincoln and West Central are undefeated in the entire state across all three classes. The Patriots are 13-0 averaging an 11-1 win in all 13 games to this points. Lincoln plays out in Rapid City today against Central and Spearfish before stopping in Pierre on Saturday.
The Governors will have senior recognition on Friday as they will honor BreAna Lowery, Nevaeh Karber, Jenna Bucholz and Erin Leiferman as the four seniors on the softball team.
First pitch is at 4:00 today and 1:00 on Saturday.
