The USHL is the premier junior league in the United States standing at the Tier I level. The NAHL with the Aberdeen Wings is considered Tier II with the NA3HL with the Badlands Sabres as a Tier III level.
Sanderson was the first American born 2007 birth year player taken in the Phase II Draft. The Phase I Draft, which was held on Monday was for those players born only in 2008. Sanderson led the Sioux Falls Power with 36 goals and 37 assists which were team highs in goals and points with being second in assists. Sanderson was the second South Dakotan drafted in the Phase II Draft with Landon Fandel who played for the Bismarck Bobcats in the NAHL taken prior in the draft.
