At Monday night’s board meeting, the Oahe Capitals would announce and hire Landon Badger as the new varsity head coach along with being named the new director of hockey.
Badger is an Oahe Capital alum graduating in 2016 and has been inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame with the fourth most points in Capitals history at 233 and the third most goals at 144. Badger was part of the first South Dakota Hockey Hall of Fame class. He has been the JV coach for the last couple of seasons along with also being an assistant baseball coach for the high school baseball team in 2022. Badger takes over for Steve Steele, who had stepped down as both varsity head coach and hockey director at the end of the boys state tournament in the middle of March. Badger becomes to the third head coach of the boys varsity program since its inaugural year in 1999.
